PRESS: Lenovo, HP, Acer may produce laptops with Russian processors
MOSCOW, Jan 18 (PRIME) -- The government has suggested foreign electronics manufacturers Lenovo, HP, and Acer should produce laptops with Russian processors as an experiment, business daily Kommersant reported on Tuesday citing minutes of a December 15, 2021 meeting of the Digital Development Ministry with foreign electronics makers.
The officials discussed with the management of Lenovo Global Technology Russia production of a batch of laptops that will work on processors produced by Russian developers, the daily reported.
According to sources close to the talks, Baikal Electronics processors were discussed. The batch will count 50,000 localized devices by the end of 2022.
Lenovo said it is ready for a dialogue “aimed at speeding up localization of production of the company, including with the use of Russian processors.”
The daily reported that similar meetings were held with the U.S.’ HP and Taiwan’s Acer.
